I was having big problems getting a Windows Vista laptop to connect to a Mac OS X via SMB file sharing, as ever setting things up on a mac was easy, but the it just didn’t work on the windows end. Fortunately some work with google found the following, which have been the very helpful (the first one solved the issue) .
Moving Virtual Identities from Thunderbird to Mail.app
Before coming to the mac I used to use thunderbird on Windows with the virtual identity plug in which allowed for the flexibility of multiple sending addresses. I was looking for a native mac solution and found the following:
- Multiple identities in one account with Apple Mail.app
- edit the preferences plist file : Mac OS X Mail app config – EmailDiscussions.com

Another of my MSc Essay’s involved describing a potential informatics resource that might improve health care within the setting I worked.

Heuristic comparison of prescribing module/functions of GPASS and VISION General Practice Clinical Systems
Another one of my Health Informatics MSc essays; this one is on computer interface usabilty:
This paper provides a comparative discussion of the prescribing interfaces of GPASS and InPractice VISION General Practice Clinical systems, using the “Discount Usability Engineering Approach”. Prescribing scenarios are investigated using a heuristic approach to cover typical tasks in every day use of the systems. A comparative table is produced looking at the features of each system and identifying those which are significant usability issues. GPASS is found to have a greater number of severe usability issues than VISION. Recommendations that software developers use operating system conventions suggestions are also made about potential improvements to the drug search strategy used by both systems. Brief discussion is made of possible extensions and improvements to the comparison presented.
Policies and Provisions for Healthcare Informatics in Scotland and the Electronic Patient Record
I produced this essay as part of the MSc I was doing in Health Informatics; the introduction/summary is below:
This report will consider the topic of healthcare informatics and the electronic patient record from a Scottish perspective. Section 2 reviews current and future strategies for healthcare informatics for the National Health Service in Scotland (NHS Scotland) including a brief background of the political and economic situation (Section 2.1). The concept of the Electronic Patient Record as the linking structure between areas of Healthcare Informatics is discussed in Section 3.
